Happy Birthday, Anna!

Now that Anna is officially one and is letting her opinions be known more and more, I decided that I should stop writing this blog in her voice and start writing it in my own. Though it won't necessarily be as fun for me, I'm starting to feel a bit weird putting words into Anna's mouth :)

We celebrated Anna's birthday on Friday night at this really fun restaurant, Ella's Deli. We met some of Anna's "friends" (Sadie, Josh, Eli, Carly, and families) for dinner, ice cream, and rides on the carousel.

Anna seemed to enjoy the company and all of the crazy decorations, but then didn't want to taste her ice cream at all. She's been like that before when we've tried to get her to try ice cream; it's as if she's not interested at all.

The carousel went over well with the kids. Though you can't really tell from this picture, but Anna enjoyed it so much that she got pretty crabby when it stopped and we had to take her off of the horse. Who would have thought she'd like it that much?

I must admit that I was a terrible mother scheduling Anna's one-year check up on her actual birthday, but I didn't realize just how many shots there would be. It seemed to work out well, though, and she even got a sticker for her troubles :) Her official stats are as follows:

height: 29.75 inches (73%)
weight: 21 lbs. 14 oz. (65%)
head cir.: 47 cm (93%) -- what happened here?!

It's amazing to think back to a year ago and realize just how much she's grown and changed since then. What a sweet kid she's turning out to be!

Matt and I picked up a music set for her a few months back for a birthday present because she's always liked music, but I don't think we realized just how much she'd go for this one. She loves the maracas and drums and I don't think it will be too long until she's learned how to make noise with the kazoo or the recorder. What were we thinking?

After all of the birthday fun on Friday, we headed out to Miriam and Chris's place outside of Milwaukee on Saturday for Mark's birthday party (he and Anna share the 27th as their special day). The three cousins seem to adore one another. Mark and Nate were full of energy and Anna tried her hardest to keep up.

Both boys picked out a special birthday present for Anna, too; Mark chose a fire truck (imagine that!) while Nate picked out a dog very much like his own stuffed dog. Of course Anna loves them!
